First phase of the Galleria garage expansion opens today
source: The Journal Record - April 11, 2005

The first phase of the three-phase Galleria Parking Garage Expansion and Harvey Avenue Extension Project in downtown Oklahoma City opens today.

The new facility is being built by Lippert Bros. Inc. for the Central Oklahoma Transportation and Parking Authority and Oklahoma City.

The $24 million facility was designed by the Architectural Design Group of Oklahoma City. Lippert's project managers are Tom Lippert and Nick Bench. Tim Taylor is the on-site project superintendent.

Lippert Bros. began construction in December 2004 by demolishing about 25 percent of the existing Galleria Parking Garage, which was built by Lippert Bros. in 1980.

The first phase of the project includes construction of the east garage, which is a six-story structure with 619 parking places. The east garage is connected to Oklahoma Tower via a tunnel in the basement and has a new parking garage administrative office on the first floor.

When the project is complete the east and west garages will be connected by two tunnels under Harvey Avenue and two bridges above at fifth-floor level.

The 118,000-square-foot, six-story structure will have 1,943 parking spaces.

Visit the Galleria Parking Garage project page under the Current Projects section for more information on this project and pictures of the progress.
